If you’re a pop punk fan of a certain age, there’s a good chance you’ve probably seen Allister more than once live. In early 2019 they released a record titled “20 Years and Counting,” a celebration of more than two decades worth of Chicago pop punk jams.
I’ve had the fortune of knowing these guys since somewhere around 1997. I even played basement shows in and around Illinois with them back when I was in a band, which at the time included Mike, who’s been drumming for Allister since the early aughts.
The Chicago punk scene has been woven into my soul for 25+ years. If you asked me back then if at the age of 40 I would know anyone that would not only still be playing, but celebrating a solid two decades of making amazing music, I’d have had nothing but disbelief. Yet, here Allister are with not only a greatest hits record but still kicking out new songs and leaving crowds sweaty and smiling.
It’s pretty amazing when your friends become rock stars. Cheers guys.
